Charlottetown woman wins Weetabix Shopping Spree contest

Retiree receives $2,500 gift card to spend at grocery store of her choice

TORONTO, May 14 /CNW/ -Helen Steele, the winner of the national Weetabix Shopping Spree contest, yesterday was presented with a $2,500 gift card, courtesy of Weetabix Canada at the Atlantic Superstore, Charlottetown.

Mrs. Steele, a long-time Charlottetown resident whose name was selected from contest entries from across Canada, won the right to participate in a three-minute shopping spree at the grocery store of her choice. As was her option, Mrs. Steele chose to accept the $2,500 gift certificate from the Atlantic Superstore, rather than complete the shopping spree.

“Thanks to Weetabix -my favorite cereal – my husband and I can look forward to having a few moresteaks this summer,” said Mrs. Steele, a grandmother of 10 and an avidquilting hobbyist.

PRWriter: There is nothing particularly wrong with this release except that it has no national news value at all. It’s kind of quaint really, like those stories in the New Yorker entitled, “There will always be an England.” She turns down the shopping spree and takes the money, so that spree isn’t even news and then says that with the money, she will buy “a few more steaks.” Is that great PR for either the all-generous Weetabix or the Atlantic Superstores?

Teranet Reports Solid Q1 Results, Increases Distributions

TORONTO,May 14 /CNW/ – Teranet Income Fund (TSX: TF.UN) today announced its firstquarter results for the period ended March 31, 2008.

PRWriter: Where are the results? There is no editing here; just a critique of howthe information is ordered here. The second paragraph should be the third, following the results, which aren’t mentioned until the fourth paragraph.

“Our results this quarter demonstrate the strength of our business model, as we delivered continued growth despite the severe winter conditions weighing on real estate purchase and sale activity,” said Aris Kaplanis, President and Chief Executive Officer of Teranet Inc. “The results were driven by strong growth in our other value-added services business as we executed our strategy. During the quarter we announced the acquisition of Do Process Software Ltd.,as well as contract wins in healthcare and with the City of Toronto. Our outlook for 2008 is positive. The fundamentals supporting Ontario’s housing market are solid, and we continue to automate more properties, grow our value-added services and diversify our revenue base.”

PRWriter: Praising oneself without saying why; still no results.

Based on the expectation of continuing strength in Teranet’s Distributable Cash in 2008, the Board ofvTrustees has approved a 4% increase in cash distributions to Unitholders, to $0.0676 per unit monthly ($0.8112 annualized) from $0.0650 ($0.7800 annualized). This increase is payable June 16, 2008 to Unitholders of record on May 30, 2008.

PRWriter: A quick tangent to a 4% (it should be four per cent not 4%) increase in distributions and only then do the results start. They should be mentioned in the first paragraph.

Thomson Reuters and its Foundation Give $300,000 for MyanmarCyclone Crisis Relief

NEW YORK, May 14 /CNW/ —Thomson Reuters (NYSE: TRI; TSX: TRI; LSE:TRIL; Nasdaq: TRIN), the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, today announced that Thomson Reuters and its Foundation will support disaster relief efforts in Myanmar with a donation totaling $300,000.  The commitment will directly fund relief agencies that have gained access to areas devastated by Cyclone Nargis through the Foundation’s AlertNet International Disaster Fund (AID fund), an independent grant-making fund that disburses cash grants for specific aid projects immediately after disasters.

PRWriter: Praise again where praise is due: Short and sweet, timely, perfectly written, part of the news cycle and a welcomed effort on Thomson Reuters’ part. Bravo! That’s PR writing. Perfect use of “its” also.
